What reviewers are saying about The ABCs of Classy

This isn't just a manners manual.

Yes, you'll learn the dining etiquette, the wardrobe frameworks, the scripts for handling awkward moments with grace. But underneath every chapter is something bigger: how to rebuild yourself after loss, how to carry your story instead of hiding it, and how to move through the world with quiet, unshakable confidence.

Metoua doesn't write from a distance. She lost both parents within three months of each other, then her husband two years later — and rebuilt her life anyway. Every principle in this book was earned, not theorized.

Practical checklists, real-world scenarios, and hard-won personal stories make this a guide you return to, not just read once. Whether you're rebuilding after a setback or simply ready to move through the world with more intention, The ABCs of Classy meets you where you are and moves you forward.

Class isn't inherited. It's built — letter by letter, choice by choice.

Reader Reviews

What readers are saying about The ABCs of Classy

"The ABCs of Classy takes a broader and more refreshing approach to the idea of being "classy," moving beyond clothes, appearances, and expensive things. Through 26 principles, Berthille Metoua touches on everything from etiquette and communication to self-love, confidence, finances, grief, and personal growth. I liked how the alphabetical format makes the advice easy to dip into, while the author's own experiences give the lessons a more personal feel. It reads less like a rulebook and more like a friendly reminder that elegance is largely about how a person carries themselves and treats others. There are plenty of practical nuggets here, whether it's remembering proper table manners, paying attention to posture and presentation, or becoming more intentional about one's habits and relationships. Some topics wander beyond the central theme, and readers may find certain sections more useful than others, but the light and conversational approach keeps the book moving. I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on inner confidence because it reinforces the idea that looking polished means little without character behind it. The ABCs of Classy is likely to appeal to readers who enjoy accessible self-help books with a mix of etiquette, confidence-building, lifestyle advice, and personal development. It can also work well as a reference for someone who is intentionally trying to become more polished, self-aware, and comfortable in different social settings. Most importantly, the book encourages readers to see "class" as something practiced through everyday choices rather than something determined by a price tag."

— Raisa M.

"In THE ABCs OF CLASSY: A Journey to Confidence, Self-Love & Transformation, Berthille Metoua explores the true meaning of being classy in the context of everyday life occurrences and interactions. The book offers the reader advice on navigating life's challenges and relationships. From communication and personal etiquette to financial confidence and overcoming loss, the author centered the story around 26 principles for easy reference. Berthille tells the story based on her own journey through life, making the story relatable and interesting. Although the format of the book is restrictive in some features, such as page flipping and assistive reading, the story is short and engaging, and the reader wouldn't get bored. The book is a good self-help guide for anyone seeking to establish personal identity and improve their relationship skills."

— Charles Magesa

"The ABC's of Classy is a breath of fresh air as Metoua, using the alphabetical system to not only focus on the outside of the woman, but the inside of the woman, as well. She points out the hair and face are the first things that people notices and how the reader should make sure that they are well taken care of along with the nails on the hands. However, she gives practical advice on how a woman can become a better woman; such as, working on bettering her character, self-love, and confidence. The ABC's of Classy also covers things from etiquette to business, as well. It's a good book to have more of a reference to keep on your shelf as you're working on bettering yourself so you can put your best self forward, no matter where you are in your life."

— Misty Knapp

"This book has a little of everything wrapped up in a nice neat package that is a quick read that you can pick up again and again. It feels geared toward women, but a lot of the tidbits I feel can be followed by men too, such as keeping oneself groomed and neat, investing in quality pieces and embracing your own boundaries (zone). I liked how each chapter (or letter) had a clear topic and delved into the subject with detail. I liked the discussion on manners, posture and journaling. So much can go into what it means to be classy and Bethille Metou has created a great guide to help you get there and even if classiness isn't your goal, there are a lot of helpful insights that can be used throughout your life, no matter the journey."

— Adrienne

"Metoua literally gives us the ABCs of classy--all 26 which is a clever way of making it an easier read. It touches on so many important aspects of classy not just the stereotype of wealth and what you own. She works important areas such as self-love and self-confidence and basically how to navigate life no matter if we're talking about something as serious as grief or the lighter take on dining etiquette. She covers all the bases. I found her approach refreshing as well as truly helpful, and that goes for BOTH women and men. I really loved her advice on how to improve relationship skills and how she incorporates some tidbits of her journey through life. A self-help book definitely worth giving a read."

— Kelly M

"Reading The ABCs of Classy by Berthille Metoua was refreshing because it made me rethink what it really means to be classy. I thought the book would mostly be about looks, fashion, and manners, but it goes much deeper than that. The book really shines in the small, practical tips: how to set a table properly, advice on business etiquette, and thoughtful thoughts on relationships and self-respect. It feels less like a rulebook and more like a warm, supportive friend giving you a gentle nudge in the right direction. Several chapters stayed with me long after I finished the book, especially those about culture and travel."

— Caroline Musyoka

"Structured around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet to align beautifully with its core themes of personal reset and holistic elegance, Berthille Metoua's The ABCs of Classy serves as an empoweringly practical and culturally rich roadmap that masterfully guides readers through the essential habits of decorum, relationship agreements, and financial discipline needed to unlock genuine self-love and a life of true sophistication. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review."

— Loredana Bukos

"ABCS OF CLASSY was a short self help book. It offered a lot of helpful life advice especially regarding general politeness and etiquette. Some of the formatting was slightly off which made it hard to differentiate between different points within each of the chapters (ex: no distinction between headings within the chapter content and the content itself). Overall, the information presented was very useful for growing confidence levels and I would recommend it if you are looking for more general life advice."

— Cal E

"The ABCs of Classy is a thoughtful guide to becoming your best self through confidence, self-respect, and intentional living. Organized around the alphabet, each chapter delivers practical lessons that are easy to understand and apply. Berthille Metoua blends personal experiences with timeless wisdom, making this an inspiring resource for anyone seeking personal growth, elegance, and resilience."

— Astrid Lugo
